HS-LS1-1. Construct an explanation based on evidence for how the structure of DNA determines the structure of proteins, which carry out the essential functions of life through systems of specialized cells.
Lesson Objective:
i will be able to:
- categorize the different information on genetics
- make observations from reading an article
- Analyze an article about genetics
Lesson Activities:
1. Do Now
Take out your homework, place it on you desk and take out your notebook.
2. Notebook arrangement
On the next empty page, create a notebook unit divider like the one we create for the last unit and write
"Unit 3: Genetics"
on the next left side create a ben diagram with the titles "what I KNOW" and "What i want to know"
3. DNA notes
On the next available right side set up for Cornell Notes and title them DNA notes/ Genetics intro
4. Article class reading
On the next available left side create a chart like the one on the board. Number the paragraphs on the article and complete the post reading. We will read the article as a class and will answer the questions as a class.
5. Exit slip
Complete the summary of the notes that you took in class today.
6. GATTACA
If time permits, I will show you a few minutes of the film GATTACA. This film is genetics related and will help us create questions and conversation topics for this unit.
