Standard:
HS-LS1-2. Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions within multicellular organisms.
Lesson Objective:
1. I will make observations during the lab to understand how the cell membrane works
2. I will investigate the different components of the cell membrane
3. I will analyze the structure of the cell membrane with the giving observations from the lab.
Lesson Activities:
1. Do Now
On a sheet of paper answer the following questions. You will need to attach your answers to your lab report. Copy the question.
1. Where is the cell membrane located?
2. What is the function of the cell membrane?
3. What does selectively permeable mean?
4. What is the difference between active and passive transport?
5. What is the cell membrane made out of?
6. What is the difference between hydrophilic and hydrophobic?
2. Cell membrane notes
Use the fill in the blank worksheet to complete the notes as I go over them with you. The powerpoint for the notes is attached to this agenda.
3. Pre lab reading and questions
Read over the lab and discuss with your team what the procedures are and also any possible questions you may still have after reading.
4. Lab set up
We will set up for the lab and make sure all groups have all of the required materials.
5. Lab
Follow the lab packet and complete the lab. Make sure to take any observations for all 6 concepts.
6. Analysis
Complete the lab analysis at the end of the packet. If time permits, you may get started on your lab report.
